Book Week (AU)

Book Week Poster 2022 Facebook Post

It’s book week here in Australia. 20-26 August is CBCA Book Week.

CBCA= Children’s Book Council of Australia.

Books open up new worlds and possibilities. This year the theme is “Dreaming with eyes open.”

Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children’s authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. You will often see parades with students dressed as their favourite book character.

  • What is your favourite book/book series?
  • How do you choose a new book to read?
  • Do you like to read? How often can you read versus how often would you like to read?
  • What books did you enjoy reading when you were young?
  • How have your reading habits changed over the last 10 years?

Reading is a way to improve your literacy skills, learn new things, explore possibilities and meet fictional characters.

As an author my reading habits have changed every year, the more I write and the more I explore genres and themes.

My favourite books as a kid were fantasy books.

I think books that have been recommended to me or have good reviews, I am more likely to read.

Let’s celebrate books, reading and learning new things this week.

Pick a book and get reading! Make the most of Book Week!

I am currently doing a series of articles on local WA/Fremantle authors in the Fremantle Herald. Each week there will be an article. It started off this weekend with an introduction and an article on 3 poets at the Bespeak Poetry Night on the 25th of August.

  1. Very interesting post, I’ve noticed that the way I read with the more I write really have focusing on different styles and how authors give the readers the story. Lately that has been dialogue because I feel that’s where I really need Improvement wise.
