The Button

The house was silent except for the occasional twittering of a cat inside and a few birds outside. In the cupboard the food was starting to go off. The bread was beginning to grow moldy. The clock was stuck at noon.

There was a minute of holding breath before a pipe burst in the kitchen. The cat woke up screeching. It made its way away from the water and towards a big red button in the laundry. It would alert the owner to a problem in the house.

I’m hoping to become a writer, playwright & novelist. I'm also considering becoming a Historian or librarian at this stage in life. I'm looking for opportunities in performance writing and publishing short stories in literary magazines. I study English and Creative Writing at university.
